Alzheimer’s: The Larceny of Life

Like a grave with soil covered
One teaspoon at a time,
The curtain slow but certain
Draws across his treasured mind.

Functioning on fragments
Of all that he has been;
Marching toward a waiting Lord
Where all’s restored again.

Recalling through frustration
What was and yet will be,
I’ll wipe his chin and remember when
He did much more for me.
