Daddy

I see you on your blanket with your rattles and your toys;
You’re smiling and you’re laughing with a happy sounding noise.
As I listen to you chatter in your own peculiar way,
I live for that grand moment when I finally hear you say,
“Daddy.”

And I look ahead a year or two, see you wobblin’ on your skates;
And I look a little further, see you frettin’ over dates.
And I look so hard, with wishful heart, as each day meets it’s end,
That through the years that lie ahead you’ll always have a friend
You’ll call “Daddy.”
