I Loved Her As A Woman First

She’s a steady inspiration and a kind-hearted guide
To the six cherished children she’s nursed;
As a mother she’s a wonder, and I love her for that,
But I loved her as a woman first.

I remember, at a distance, how I gazed through the crowd
To a face lit by eyes that excite;
Each move held my attention while my heart held the hope
That she wasn’t just a dream in the night.

For long we’ve been settled; still, deep in my heart,
Never will these feelings disperse;
Though her roles are now many I want her to know
I loved her as a woman first.
