No More Songs

Lyrics to a song I wrote that speaks to how heartbreak can make even joyful things painful.

Used to be the songs were sweet coming from the radio;
Songs of love singing of the stories we all should know.
I sang along with every song and thought I knew the words;
Now it’s strange, the tune has changed ‘til every lyric hurts.
I don’t want to hear another song again; she’s left me all alone;
With every word come thoughts of her to grind me like a stone.

(Chorus):
So sing no songs;
I’ll have no songs;
While every song
Tells me how I need her
Tells me how I miss her
Tells me of a love gone wrong
Turn the tunes down
Now that I’ve found
Her memory in every song
Every song, now that she’s gone.

I didn’t know ‘til days ago how every song turns sad
As songs of love remind me of the love that I once had.
Amazing how ‘tween then and now things changed from how they were;
The song’s the same, ‘was me who changed; now every song’s ‘bout her.
I don’t want to hear another song again; reflections on the past
Fractured scenes of all my dreams shattered in the glass.

(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
Sing of nights in paradise and laughter in the sun
Brings no cheer ‘cause all I hear are sad songs… they’re all just sad songs…every one.

It used to be the songs were sweet coming from the radio
But now she’s gone…
