Temples On The Rise

I heard the proclamation sound,
A temple soon would rise;
Reaching up from chosen ground
Toward Heaven’s opened skies.

I ventured to the chosen site,
‘Saw dust, machines, and men
Assigned to build the vision bright,
But where would they begin?

The dirt and mud began to fly,
They bored into the ground;
They did not start by building high,
They started digging down.

They poured and packed and dug some more,
‘Solidified the earth;
And laying rock became the chore
That marked the temple’s birth.

I thought how that’s a common truth
‘Tween temples on the rise,
And men and women in their youth
With glory in their eyes;

Who’ve dug down deep beyond the sand
To truths they’ve proven sure;
Their dreams, like spires, soon will stand,
Their foundation is secure.
