The Gem Within

Created for an LDS Church Young Women’s Recognition program.

It was lovely just the way it was,
The onyx in the ore;
A luminescent gem of gold
That glistens from the core.

But caring hands took hold the stone,
Removing parts unpure;
Enhanced the luster of the gem,
Compounded it’s allure.

Until, at length, the polished stone
Appeared to be afire;
Fit to be a crowning jewel
Atop a temple spire.

She was lovely just the way she was,
The woman in her youth;
Who, on her knees, approached the Lord
Enquiring after truth.

The Master worked His wondrous ways,
He knew the heart within;
And helped her master trying goals
That purify the gem.

And now, at length, her polished soul
With Spirit seems afire;
Soon to be a crowning jewel
Beneath a temple spire.
