The View From The Saddle

The view from the window is often so clear,
The sun lights the skies and the hills;
And sometimes the landscape is shadowed by clouds
Or covered by winter’s white chills.

The view changes daily, in some little way,
As you glance through the glass and the pane;
But except for the weather or birds flying by
The gaze gets to looking the same.

The view from the saddle is varied by time,
Each moment reveals something new;
You are the voyager chasing the sights
That alter by angle of view.

You bring to your vision the depths and the heights,
The vistas, the brown and the green;
The view from the saddle is vital and full
With you as a part of the scene.

Away from your window! Mount up and ride!
The earth has a sound and a smell!
The cottage is shelter from wind and from rain,
The world is the place where you dwell!
