We Mourn The Here And Now

How gray the day the wreath was laid
As though the skies agreed
That light must leave while those who grieve
Respond to sorrow’s need.

Tears come not from disbelief
In Heaven’s hopeful vow
Fair assured by canon’s word
We mourn the here and now.

Today; tomorrow; the time ahead
So full of empty space
We long the pleasure to touch and treasure
The vanished form and face.

Yes, life, in time, continues on
With fields we yet must plow
We’ll meet again, but know, ‘til then,
We’ll mourn the here and now.
